The Madwriter: Rose how did you started out in music?
Rose :My story is quite interesting I suppose. I was helping to run a Jazz Jam Night once a month and I used to sing a
song or two with the Jammers. We also had a little band and would play fetes and charity events I would sing a
couple of jazz standards with them. I had been involved in amateur theatre as actor and director performing in
stage Plays, musicals and choirs. I was also coached by a classical singing teacher for several years, but I did
not class myself as a singer. I loved it but lacked the confidence. Then I had a big birthday and my friends
clubbed together and bought me some recording time for a birthday present. Wow, never in a million years
would I have gone into a studio had it not been for that gift. It took another year before I stepped into the studio,
but that was the beginning, I recorded a few covers and thought that was it. After sharing my CD’s I got asked to
do a few concerts singing and indeed even a wedding.
It was around this time I was struck down with a Debilitating illness. It took two years to recover slowly and during
that time my life was on hold. I couldn’t work, i couldn’t perform, I could barely walk and it was even difficult
to speak or have a conversation. I could no longer read. I turned to music more and I more and found a tune
and lyrics going round and round I my head. Eventually I contacted the recording studio for advice. I sang him
the song and was told it was good, We got it down and that was my first song. YOU GOT ME. It was Recorded
end of 2016. It didn’t stop there, soon I had another and another. I had never played musical instrument but now
I started on ukulele, then moved to guitar. I don’t play either very well but I love it and I can write songs and
strum a good number old favourites for fun.
Now I am busy with music all the time, I am totally in love with it. I am fully recovered from my illness although I
still have reading problems. I get out and sing and perform whenever I can, I have an album out and several
singles. I have collaborated with some great artists from USA, South Africa, Spain and if have an offer in from
France at the moment. I am generally Jazz/Easy Listening, but I came up with a dance number recently and I’m
working on an EP of Celtic type music. I am flexible. People say I have a distinctive voice and style. I have also
self produced several videos myself. I find it such fun and I spend hours editing. You can check them out on YouTube
